Support

Samarium is fully supported and users can contact us at anytime. The best way is via email first and then by telephone. If you are asking for support by email, please include 'Samarium Question' in the title of the email if you have a question or 'Samarium Bug' if you are reporting a bug.

System Requirements

Samarium requires Windows XP or Windows XP. It has not been tested (extensively) on other platforms and there is no assurance that it will even work. Minimum recommended processor speed is 1.2 GHz with 512 Mb of Ram. Samarium relies heavily on hardware accelerated OpenGL so a good video card that supports hardware OpenGL is highly recommended. Expect several functions to not work properly with software supported OpenGL, this is not a limitation of Samarium but of the OpenGL support.

Note- Versions later than 1.0.8.5 will be supported by Microsoft Windows XP (32 and 64 bit) and Windows Vista operating systems (OS) only.

A more powerful system is recommended if the primary interest in using Samarium includes finite-element analysis. Samarium was being developed and tested on a 2 GHz AMD 64 bit, dual core processor with 2 Gb of DDR RAM, 2.2 GHz quad core processor with 4 Gb DDR2 RAM as of 2007.  Later hardware includes quad core CPUs mostly of AMD make.

2010: 6 core AMD Processor at 3.2 GHz with 4 Gb of DDR3 RAM and high end video card.

Extensions available on a video card is shown below for reference.

Limitations

The graph windows do not have any memory built in as of now. Print and print preview is only partially supported.

Database editor support is not in place yet. Please send us the data you wish to add to any of the databases and we will do it for you. Once completed we will send you the new database files. Samarium uses only one set of data files at this time which can be found in the 'dbfiles' sub-directory in the Samarium installation directory.

Some slotless motors can be simulated with only 2 pole magnets. The magnetic model of slotless motors that can be simulated using FEA does not allow any coil currents at this time.

See the Version and History page for more details.

Installing the License Files

Samarium is designed to not function after the license has expired. Please do not use Samarium after the license has expired and do not rely on Samarium to work properly after the license has expired if you choose to continue using it after license expiry. Note that using Samarium after license expiry is not in accordance with the License and is in violation of the agreement. Click here to learn more about the license agreement. Please uninstall the software and destroy all copies including back up copies of Samarium if you decide to change your mind with the License policy at any time.

Please do not install Samarium in the first place if you are not in agreement with the License. By installing, you have agreed to it already.

Please go to the root directory or installation directory of Samarium. Find the directory called License and navigate into it. Copy the license files you have received into this directory to overwrite the dummy files that are present there. The dummy files can be overwritten, they are there only to help locate the License folder.
