General Page
This page has general options regarding the type of motor to be designed. It also allows you to optionally generate the 2-D or 3-D models. The analytical design itself is also an option to enable only visualization. There are two fields for notes with the second one being optionally private. If the second field is checked private, then the data will never be printed either to a printer nor to the screen. It helps to keep private information regarding the design or any other information confidential to the user and her/his organization.
Dimensions Page
The required geometric parameters are defined in this page. All parameters are required only for the design of slotted motors. For slotless motors several parameters are not required and will be set to zero during the design process irrespective of a valid entry in those fields. Lrbi in the Rotor section defines the rotor back iron thickness for outer rotating motors. If spoke type interior magnet rotor has been selected, the Arcm variable will be represented as Lw with the units changed to the default length unit.
Control Page
This page has the parameters that control the motor via the drive electronics. The materials of different parts of the motor can also be set here. The rated speed, Nrtd, defines the speed at which all rated performance calculations are computed. If the back emf is higher than the supply voltage at this speed, the output of the motor is set to zero. The no load speed, Nnl, is only to define the speed limit in any output graphs.
The magnet property page has the information on the magnet material. The first field is used to select the magnet material. All other fields in the Magnet database group are read from the database and filled for user information. Custom magnetic grades are not yet supported as well as adding a user defined magnet to the database. The other parameters help to define the magnet air gap flux density waveform. To ensure proper analytical modeling of the motor, great care must be taken to define the air gap magnet flux density waveform correctly.
Winding Page
The winding parameters can be set in this page. Only automatic winding is supported at this time. The wire database can be accessed from this page and the desired wire can be chosen. The databases allows for easy and quick changes in the wire size to achieve the correct slot fill and resistance. Two different winding algorithms are available in the Type pull down menu. The third option is "Custom", where the winding can be entered by the user in the grid.
Holes Page
This page is used to define holes in the stator and rotor and is available for use with finite-element analysis. Holes are completely ignored in Analytical design calculations. Care must be taken to ensure that the positions are symmetric if partial motor model is chosen for FEA. Samarium will automatically discard holes that intersect the model edges. Care must also be taken to ensure that the material definitions in the mesh are correct.
Coefficients Page
This page sets the several coefficients required for accurate modeling of the motor.
Miscellaneous Page
Certain general parameter can be set here.
Slotless Page
This page contains parameters that are set specifically for slotless motors. Only 2 pole ring magnets with parallel magnetization are supported. Escap F is propriety and is not available for general use, this will be removed from the present Samarium and made into a special plug-in module in a future release.
