Currents in Wye, Delta Connected Motors

These results were produced using v1.0.3.1  (February 10-25, 2007).

 

 

The active coils are shown in the animation of a 12 slot motor with 4 poles. A standard full pitch winding which has been wye or star connected is simulated. The animation is a result of the output of a Samarium multirun with phase currents to highlight the timing of phases being turned off and on with a six step drive. Samarium can automatically control the timing of the currents injected into the phases. Samarium can be used to generate similar data for any three phase slot-pole combination.

The graph below shows the current in the same motor but with a delta connected winding. The animation shows the currents in the delta connected winding. All three phases carry current continuously. The phases are switched differently from the wye connected motor by 30 electrical degrees.
